I have a 14-year-old daughter, and she’s been dating a boy her age for a few months now. He’s polite, respectful, and always greets us properly when he comes over. Every Sunday, he visits and spends most of the day in her room.
At first, I trusted them. But as a parent, that little voice in your head never fully goes away.
One Sunday, I suddenly wondered: What if I’m being too trusting? What if there’s something I should know?
My heart raced as I walked down the hallway. I knocked lightly… then opened the door.
And what did I see?
My daughter was sitting on the floor, surrounded by notebooks and textbooks. The boy was at her desk, explaining a math problem, using a whiteboard marker and smiling nervously.
They both looked up at me — startled.
It turns out they had been studying together every Sunday. Preparing for exams. Helping each other with homework. Even planning a small science project for school.
In that moment, all my fear disappeared.
Instead of seeing something to worry about, I saw trust, respect, and two teenagers supporting each other in the right way.
I quietly closed the door, feeling relieved — and a little ashamed that I had doubted them.
Sometimes, the scariest thoughts come from our imagination…
and the truth is far more comforting.
