What was meant to be the beginning of a happy married life ended in tragedy in Shillong, India, after a newlywed man was found dead during his honeymoon. Raja Raghuvanshi, a businessman from Indore, had traveled to the scenic hill city with his wife, Sonam Raghuvanshi, on May 20. Just a few days later, his body was discovered in a remote canyon, badly decomposed and missing personal belongings, including his identification and wedding ring.

At first, police suspected Raj Kushwaha, a man believed to have had a close relationship with Sonam. However, as the investigation progressed, authorities uncovered evidence that allegedly pointed to Sonam herself as the main suspect behind the crime.

According to investigators, Sonam is accused of planning Raja’s murder and recruiting three men — identified as Vishal Singh, Anand Kurmi, and Akash Rajput — to carry out the attack in exchange for money. Police believe that Sonam tracked her husband’s movements during the trip and shared his location with the suspects.

Raja is believed to have been ambushed and pushed into the gorge between May 23 and May 24. After the incident, the men reportedly left the area. Investigators also claim that Sonam maintained contact with multiple people during this period, raising further suspicion about her involvement.

Authorities say the case is still under active investigation, and all accused persons are being questioned. Police are continuing to collect digital evidence, verify movement records, and examine financial transactions linked to the suspects.

The shocking case has drawn nationwide attention in India, highlighting how a trip meant to celebrate love and marriage allegedly turned into a carefully planned crime. Officials have urged the public to allow the legal process to proceed while they work to uncover the full truth behind the killing.
